Trying to work out how to play on this map. I saw a video about Settlers of Cataan and how the idea was to explore and develop an island. However SOC is a bit dull. Once someone gets ahead the game is just watching them win. Maybe with higher level players it is different. YMMV I guess.
Anyway - the idea is to place farms - farmers - ships and warriors. Then get income and build more farms etc. This will escalate until the map is crowded and players come into conflict. Warriors can attack, farmers can defend. Ships are needed to exploit land over water barriers.
Winning may be by reaching a set income threshold? I have made some player aids to facilitate the accounting - which does get irksome.
Anyway - enjoying the process. I like designing games more than playing anyway!
